  • i don’t really mind what you call me. i use a fair few names with friends - Kite and Astel being the current main ones - but feel free to make me a nickname!
  • i use all pronouns except she/her and nounself pronouns (to be clear i have no problem with others using them! i just don’t vibe with being referred to with them)
  • everything on my blog is ask to tag :) whether you’d like a certain topic, thing, or kind of post to be tagged, just let me know
  • i don’t reblog any “rb if you support __” posts, or anything that implies the viewer is obligated to reblog it. if i do by accident, feel free to send me a message or ask!

Today, one of my second graders was working on shape name recognition, and we got to this picture of a pyramid shape with a wide-ish base. When he saw it, his eyes lit up and he turned to me with a huge grin on his face, pointed at it, and said "When the teacher forgets to assign homework" before bursting out into hysterics, covering his mouth and giggling.

I don't understand what happened except this kid CLEARLY knows about the strong comedic and memeable value of mathematical shapes and emotions that I, an old millennial, cannot comprehend

I did, however, try to recreate this moment as the meme this child must have seen in his head

this post is spreading now which is cool and all, I'm glad so many people thought it was as funny as I thought it was, but I'm also starting to get a lot of "kids are memorizing memes before basic shapes? What's wrong with this kid/what is the world coming to/etc" and that is just not at all the feeling I had writing this post.

You know what I had memorized before I was in 2nd grade? The theme song to Pokemon. The entirety of the 1985 TV Special "Poochie". Intricate lore about my stuffed animals and toys and the lives that they lead.

Basically, what I'm getting at is that kids aren't bad or to be shamed for for knowing memes, or having random stuff memorized before they know some facts, or whatever. They're kids, they're little human beings with their own interests and personalities, and when this kid looked me in the eye and said this, I thought it was hilarious. I thought he was hilarious, and he shared with me something from his world that brought him joy and it brought me joy.

So like, if you're going to be coming to my blog shitting on kids, you're in the wrong place. Kids are confusing, bizarre, and a lot of work, but ultimately I think they're awesome. If kids having a sense of humor or likes and interests bothers you so much, maybe go outside and touch some grass or something

no he was hilarious for this one. i wheezed kids absolutely have memes and the memes i had as a kid were significantly worse than this i'm sure my parents would rather have me captioning geometric shapes with nonsensical phrases than singing I HATE YOU YOU HATE ME LET'S TEAM UP AND KILL BARNEY

insane how many people just have these incredible artists in their families who get no recognition outside of crocheting circles because this art form is devalued for its association with women

in my country, the word for crocheting, is used metaphorically, to compliment a surgeon’s work.

every AFAB person my mother’s age and older, had practiced this craft at one point on another.

My mom has made literal paintings, that decorate our house for years (I’ll come back with pictures when I visit next) you can only see that they are crocheting when you go very close.

as promised here’s my mom’s crocheting “paintings”

There is another one but it had been stored many years ago, (i remember it from my childhood) and sadly it is probably damaged by mold, it depicted wild horsed running in nature
